This year we are challenging our students to read one million words and they are already well on their way! We have also set up some short term goals:
250,000 by the end of the first quarter
500,000 by the end of the second quarter
750,000 by the end of the third quarter
1,000,000,000 by May!
Students who reach these goals will be rewarded with parties and prizes!
Birthday Book Club!
We are continuing the Birthday Book Club at the UE/MS Library! During the month of each student's birthday, parents will have the opportunity to recognize their child on his/her birthday or any other special event. For a small donation of $10 you may have a brand new book placed in our library in honor of your child. I can help your child choose from a variety of new books that have been carefully selected for our library. The book they choose will have a special bookplate on the inside cover honoring him/her. For those with summer birthdays, I will send home a letter in December or January in honor of their "half-birthday!"
We have a wonderful library for the upper elementary and middle school students with over 20,000 books. Unfortunately, many are very old, out of date and falling apart. The only funding the library receives is what we earn in fundraising. This year's fundraisers include the Birthday Book Club, two Scholastic Book Fairs, and the sticker/pencil machine that is in the hall between the library and the middle school gym. We are also selling fruit snacks for $1.00. Students can buy fruit snacks any time of day and then eat them at lunch or after school. All money made from these fund raisers buys new books for the library, book repair materials, and other items for the library. Thank you so much for always supporting our library fund raisers!
Scholastic Book Fair - Coming Soon!
Our fall book fair is right around the corner. The dates are October 13-19. We will be open from 8:00 to 3:30 every day and open until 7:00 PM on Tuesday, October 17. If you are interested in volunteering at the book fair, we would love to have you! You will receive a $5.00 credit to spend at the book fair for every day that you volunteer! There will also be a link here to order books online with proceeds going to our library. The link will only be active the week of our fair, but books will be delivered to students the week after. Please send me an email if you have any questions or are interested in volunteering.
