Dear Parent/Guardian,

Welcome to the 2018-2019 school year at Oologah Lower Elementary!  We are so excited to welcome your student back to school in a few weeks.  We have worked very hard this summer planning, cleaning, and decorating to prepare for an amazing year.

I want to take a moment to introduce myself to you.  My name is Crysti York, and I have been the principal of Oologah Lower Elementary for the past five years.  I came to Oologah in 2009 and this will be my 10th year as a Mustang.  I have spent the last 23 years teaching in Colorado Springs, CO and Lee’s Summit, MO before returning home to Oklahoma.   Early Childhood education has been my focus over the years and I have to say it is my favorite.  The Lower is where the “Mustang Magic begins.”   I love my job and this community.  I count myself blessed to work with amazing teachers and leaders in this district and a community who supports its school system.   I cannot wait to meet students on August 20th when we open our doors for the Meet the Teacher night.

I am so excited to announce our building theme for this upcoming year: The Power of YET.  Our building is truly adopting a growth mindset when examining the progress of our students and the effectiveness of the instruction we are providing.  We are determined to focus on each child and his or her individual growth in all academic areas including social/emotional.   At OLE, we truly believe that there is NOTHING impossible for our Mustangs!  There is nothing they cannot do...they just might not be able to do it YET.  This mindset is empowering for our students and their teachers, and it truly embodies the spirit of perseverance, determination, and grit that we want to develop in each child who walks through our doors.

There are upcoming dates I would like to bring to your attention.  For more specific information on these items, please check our Lower Elementary Facebook page or our school website.  We hope you are able to join us for as many of these events as possible:

Friday, August 17                    Class list posted on front doors at 4:00

Again, we are looking forward to a wonderful year of learning and growing at Oologah Lower Elementary!  If I or any of my staff can be of any assistance to you throughout the year, please know that our doors are always open.  We look forward to meeting your student and getting to know your family as the year progresses.  We can’t wait for August 22nd to begin what is sure to be a WONDERFUL year of school!

Sincerely,

Crysti York, Principal
