Dear Parent/Guardian,

Welcome to the 2018-2019 school year at Oologah Upper Elementary!  We are so excited to welcome your student back to school in a few weeks.  We have worked very hard this summer planning, cleaning, decorating, and thinking creatively to ensure that your child has the best year of school ever!

I want to take a moment to introduce myself to you.  My name is Kendra Adkins, and I am so excited to be the new principal of Oologah Upper Elementary!  I am a lifelong Mustang who attended school in Oologah from kindergarten through graduation.  Oologah Schools provided me with an exceptional education that sparked a love of learning and teaching in me from a very early age.  I count myself blessed to have received my instruction from such dedicated and skilled teachers who gifted me with the best education possible, and I am completely committed to ensuring your student has the same amazing opportunity!

I am so excited to announce our building theme for this upcoming year: The Power of YET.  Our building is truly adopting a growth mindset when examining the progress of our students and the effectiveness of the instruction we are providing.  We are determined to focus on each child and his or her individual growth in all academic areas rather than trying to fit them each into standardized levels of achievement.  At OUE, we truly believe that there is NOTHING impossible for our Mustangs!  There is nothing they can’t do...they just might not be able to do it YET.  This mindset is empowering for our students and their teachers, and it truly embodies the spirit of perseverance, determination, and grit that we want to develop in each child who walks through our doors.

There are a few upcoming dates I would like to bring to your attention.  For more specific information on these items, please check our Upper Elementary Facebook page or our school website.  We hope you are able to join us for as many of these events as possible:

Monday, August 13                 3rd Grade Orientation from 7:00 - 8:00 in the UE Library

Friday, August 17                    Class lists posted on front doors at 4:00

            Saturday, August 18                Volunteer Workday from 8:00 - 12:00

Monday, August 20                 Meet the Teacher Night from 6:00 - 8:00

Wednesday, August 22            FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL

Again, we are looking forward to a wonderful year of learning and growing at Oologah Upper Elementary!  If I or any of my staff can be of any assistance to you throughout the year, please know that our doors are always open.  We look forward to meeting your student and getting to know your family as the year progresses.  We can’t wait for August 22nd to begin what is sure to be a WONDERFUL year of school!
