Driver Education Program

OTPS DRIVER EDUCATION PROGRAM

Oologah-Talala Public Schools offers a comprehensive Driver Education program designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary for safe and responsible driving.

Course Overview

This course provides students with 30 hours of classroom instruction and 6 hours of behind-the-wheel driving time with a certified instructor. Our curriculum focuses on preparing students to pass the state driving exam, while also emphasizing crucial elements such as:

  • Important safe driving rules
  • Defensive driving skills
  • Basic car care and maintenance

Enrollment Details

  • Eligibility: All students must be at least 15 years of age by the time they begin the behind-the-wheel driving portion of the class.
  • Location: Oologah Middle School, Room 224
  • Tuition: The tuition cost for the course is $250.00, payable on the first day of class.
  • How to Sign Up:
    • Complete the 2025-2026 Drivers Education Enrollment Form.
    • Return the completed application form and payment on the first day of class.
    • E-mail Mr. Dyer to sign up.

Course Schedule

The Driver Education course is offered both during the regular school year and throughout the summer. Specific class dates will be provided upon enrollment. Driving times will be scheduled by the instructors at a mutually convenient time for both the student and instructor.

Grading & Attendance

  • Grading: Students will be evaluated based on tests, quizzes, driving performance, and attendance. A final grade will be issued for the course.
  • Attendance Policy: Regular attendance is mandatory for all scheduled classes. Failure to attend required sessions may result in a failing grade for the course.

Required Supplies

Students are responsible for bringing:

  • Something to write with (pen/pencil and notebook)
  • An Oklahoma Driver's Manual. This can be purchased at a tag agency or printed from the Oklahoma Department of Public Safety website: Oklahoma Driver's Manual Online
  • Students may also pack a lunch and snack as needed.

Course Credit

Upon satisfactory completion of the Driver Education course, students will receive 1/2 unit of credit.
