According to State and Federal Guidelines, all confidential special education records may be destroyed after a period of (5) years, once it has been determined that the records are no longer needed for educational purposes. Parents must be notified prior to the destruction of confidential records and must have the opportunity to obtain the records before destruction.

These confidential special education records include records of the child’s special testing, placement in special education classes and Individualized Education Plans (IEPs).

This letter serves as formal notice that you have the opportunity to obtain these confidential records. If no response to this notice is received within sixty (60) days of the date listed at the bottom of this letter, the confidential records will be permanently destroyed.
